saints preserve sam byram as sharp, bellusci & cooper add to leeds unitedBack
United have confirmed two and are close to another new player, all while fending off bids for Byram.
The club confirmed last night that Giuseppe Bellusci has signed a one year loan deal to move from Catania, with photos of the contract signing available to emphasise that he really, really, really has signed, honest.
The player himself promised on Twitter that “I will give my heart for this shirt Leeds Leeds Leeds.”
A deal with Chesterfield for another central defender, Liam Cooper, has also been confirmed by the club; he was due in Leeds today for a medical and to discuss terms, with United believed to be paying around £750–800k following previous failed bids under the £500k mark.
Nothing was being said officially about Billy Sharp signing, although it was known that the striker was having a medical today; four o’clock brought a tweet and a photo from the man himself, waving a Leeds shirt from the edge of the Elland Road pitch. Sharp is possibly the most exciting signing of the lot: say what you like about Bellusci, Cooper and defensive solidity, at Championship level Sharp is proven to equal goals.
While those three go through the processes of becoming Leeds players, reports down south say Southampton have downed their attempts to get Sam Byram to go the other way for £4.5m, after “Saints’ attempted advances were ignored by the Championship club.” That leaves just Sunderland as a known suitor for the right back, who’ll be needed at Leeds for the next three games at least after Swiss debutant Gaetano “Hard Bear”* Berardi’s spectular sending off last night.
