leeds united & agard: whirlwind romance ends as cellino says deal is off

Back

A fee was confirmed as agreed for Keiran Agard and the player had been spotted at Elland Road today ready to “sort everything out”, but that’s where the plan seems to have gone awry.

Details are scare, but the tweets from the YEP’s Phil Hay are clear:

Message from Cellino indicating that Agard deal is off. That was very short-lived. #lufc

— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) August 15, 2014

According to Cellino, he "didn’t like Agard’s attitude." For whatever reason, it’s all gone wrong. #lufc

As well as the word from Cellino, Phil has confirmed the situation with Agard’s agent:

Have spoken to Agard’s agent – "Deal’s off, we basically couldn’t agree personal terms." #lufc

Agard’s agent – "They had a budget that they were sticking to and we couldn’t agree to that." #lufc

Budget pressures may mean Cellino has found someone better at the price; Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has this morning put the names of Ternana forward Mirco Antenucci and Chelsea forward (you see the theme developing here) Patrick Bamford into the mix.

Or Keiran might have just caught Massimo on an off-day.

Deal-off doesn’t always mean deal-off at LUFC these days; as I wrote in The Square Ball Week this morning, deals that looked wrong three weeks ago suddenly looked right again after Millwall. It looks like it’d need the charm offensive to end all charm offensives for Agard to end up at Leeds now though.

As the deal’s collapse leaves Leeds with a mere eight forwards on the books, can we have Luciano Becchio back now please?
