hockaday’s press conference puts sorensen to leeds united in doubt

Dave Hockaday’s press conference ahead of the Millwall game has raised doubts that the transfer of Frederik Sorensen from Juventus to Leeds is as complete as all that.

Yesterday Massimo Cellino told Phil Hay of the YEP that "Frederik Sorensen to Leeds is complete and he’s been training at Thorp Arch today." The Danish central defender was due to join on a season long loan for a fee of around €500,000, with an option to buy for around £3.5m.

The situation doesn’t seem as cut and dried following Hockaday’s presser today:

Hmm. From Hockaday’s presser – says as far as he’s aware, the Sorensen deal hasn’t gone through. Will try to work out what’s going on there

Cellino said yesterday that Sorensen was agreed and in place. Looks like we might have another repeat of Viviani here. #lufc

Federico Viviani almost joined Leeds on a similar loan-with-option deal, but that broke down after drawn out negotiations, with Cellino claiming the Roma midfielder was making too many "demands" and the player’s agent bemoaning a lack of paperwork from United. Viviani has now joined Latina on loan.

It’s unclear what, if anything, is the problem with Sorensen; we just have to hope he didn’t get a hold of this tweet from director (and son of the president) Edoardo Cellino back in May:

@AaronCochrane_ I hate juve and juventus players, seriously I rather die than see players from juventus here
