rudy austin red carded in panamaBack
Leeds captain Rodolph Austin was sent off in Jamaica’s World Cup Qualifier in a rain-soaked Panama City overnight.
The Jamaica Observer described the 0-0 draw as "fought to the bitter end" after the man we love to call The Beast received a second yellow card in the 58th minute. The Reggae Boyz also had Jermaine Beckford as an unused substitute.
Austin, whose disciplinary record at United is remarkably good for a player who could single-handedly dismantle most other midfielders in the division, got his first booking in the in the 33rd minute after leaving his foot behind in this tackle on Alberto Quintero:
The second came after nearly an hour, another late challenge again left Quintero rolling around in agony, while the newly shaven-headed Rudy’s complaints to the referee and linesman were in vain.
The draw left Jamaica bottom of their qualifying group, 5 points behind Mexico in the last qualifying place with three matches remaining; Austin’s red card will rule him out of Tuesday’s vital match with Costa Rica, which means he may return to Leeds a little fresher than usual – but also a little angrier than usual.
