The City Talking is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Auckland as the company’s first Chairman. Auckland has extensive media industry experience, having previously held the CEO position at ESI Media (owners of The Independent and Evening Standard), Metro, Local World and Northcliffe Media. Auckland will be working closely with The City Talking’s CEO Lee Hicken and the rest of the team at their headquarters in Leeds.
“From the initial conversations with Steve it was clear we could work together to take The City Talking to the next level,” says Hicken. “Steve’s knowledge and industry experience will help us manage our current growth and ensure that The City Talking reaches its potential as a successful media brand.”
Founded in 2013, The City Talking has produced newspapers, magazines and digital content in seven UK cities. It has been named one of the ‘50 Most Creative Companies in England’ by Creative England, a media ‘New Radical’ by The Observer and one of the leading examples of ‘Cross Industry Collaboration’ by the Creative Industries Council. In 2015 The City Talking began making films; since then, it has produced features in partnership with the BBC, Sky, Plusnet and First Direct.
Speaking about his appointment Auckland says, “I’m thrilled to be joining such a dynamic and entrepreneurial business. I love the people, culture and simple core strategy. Helping the team to continue growing at their current pace is really exciting.”
