Back

This is our first A-Z issue in Manchester; it’s a chance to fill our pages with as many stories, hopes, dreams and memories as we can. Every year we speak to friends, acquaintances and strangers who we hope will become friends.

The A-Z issue always begins with a question, and this year in Manchester there were two. We wanted to know what people in Manchester had enjoyed this past year — the events, individuals and moments that made their 2015 great. We also wanted to know what they were excited about — what 2016 had promised them. We asked everyone from baristas, writers and artists to CEOs and leaders of the city’s tech community. We hope to ask even more of you next year.

Has to be the moment we opened our doors to the public, on 7th July! A nerve wrecking time as customers started to trickle in, but a healthy dose of excitement and the overwhelming response from the public was heartwarming! A year of planning, design and implementation materialised as we unleashed our dream!

— 2016 —

Lots of developments for Chapter One! We’ve implemented lots of changes since opening and we’re excited for Phase 2 as we move forward with the exterior design, launch our shiny new website, host a variety of events in the theatre and contribute to local community events such as Manchester Lit Fest for the first time! We’re excited to be hosting the awards for this year’s Commonword Diversity Writing for Children and celebrate our first birthday in July, so its all systems go! Since being voted the UK city to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet, we’re excited to be a part of as many of the city’s events as possible! We’re hopefully collaborating with 24:7 Theatre Festival and of course, looking forward to the Jazz Festival & Manchester Day in June!

General Manager at Chapter One Books

— 2015 —

Since opening it has been fantastic to see how far we have come, how much we have evolved, all the while remaining true to the original concept for Chapter One Books. I feel that this is due in no small part to the amazing response we’ve received from the local community — thoroughly supportive and highly enthusiastic.

— 2016 —

As we near our first anniversary, I am looking forward to expanding our range of books, our coffees and food menu. We have a great team working with us, each of them are skilled, knowledgeable and committed. We are introducing a specials board where there will be everything from the Chefs’ recommendation’s and Baristas’ Favourites to our very own Book Ambassadors Choice.

It’s been an honour to join The Chapter One family and observe the store growing and developing a likeminded community in the Northern Quarter.

— 2016 —

The journey has just begun! I’m looking forward to endless possibilities, continuing to learn and grow in my position at Chapter One Books and being a part of a community space that actively amalgamates good old fashioned family values and encourages creativity!
